There is no better way to spend an evening for me than to cook a hearty meal and uncork a mysterious new bottle of wine. While making tortellini with vodka sauce my boyfriend selected Weinert Carrascal 2005 from his wine rack. We could not have asked for a better red to go along with our pasta. This wine is produced in Mendoza Argentina and reaffirms why I love to drink South American wines. Not only are they easy on the wallet but they have amazing flavor. The Carrascal is a blend of 45% malbec, 35% merlot, and 20% cabernet sauvignon and has a rather high alcohol content of 14%. This wine really opened up as we were drinking it and was incredibly smooth. The taste of blackberries was prominent for me. You cannot go wrong with this red and it is a bargain at under $15 per bottle.
